The changing nature of Work!

In recent times, driven by the momentum of connectivity and cognitive technology the nature of work is changing. A steady progress and refinement can be seen in cognitive technologies and artificial intelligence. This emphasizes the crucial need for Enterprises and their HR leaders to preempt, design and manage the future of work, workforces, and workplaces accordingly.

Enterprises are already being reinvented with a lot of changes.

Technical Change Technologies such as mobility, cloud computing, web conferencing and telepresence are powering connectivity across the globe and allowing people to work remotely. Thus, increasing the opportunity to utilize people capability without requiring people to move.

Spatial Change Today employees are not confined to office spaces and can obtain and share knowledge from any place at any time. This exchange is happening at a fast rate as mobile and internet devices are becoming more accessible in emerging markets and from remote locations. The right technological competence liberates us from any confines, be it geography or time.

Aptitude Change Work has become complex and is changing at a much higher pace. In this time of global connectivity, work is conducted across an increasingly broad range of settings, geographies, and time frames and requires collaboration, team-work, and social skills. These changes have led to various challenges: • Since it is not possible to communicate casually with a distributed work team hence, leaders need to formalize good work practices and processes for the team to follow. • It’s a challenge to keep workers engaged and connected as they are more physically dispersed and it becomes more difficult to engage them with one another. • Ultimately, workers, work, and workplaces serve the organizations and to encourage socialization, Enterprises need to link conscious organizational strategies with social proficiencies and work policies.

• Workplaces and work styles are not static anymore, but continually evolving. New trends are percolating at the grass roots level that are influencing even larger organizations. However, these challenges don’t have to be hurdles.

Smart devices allow continuous connectivity. While this blurs the line between work and personal life, these devices also allow flexible ways to communicate and conduct and measure work. The design philosophies for user interface and user experience have changed over time. The user centric design thinking can enable organizations to design smart solutions to engage the workforce.

The advancements in Technology has also created smart consumers who understand the extent of possibilities Technology can deliver. Same Technology, when used cleverly in the organizational context can tap into productivity and make it easier to achieve organizational outcomes. The factors driving all the changes will accelerate the first movers as they become experts at optimizing the use of machines and crowds to drive productivity, innovative products and services, and customer relationships.

However, A large number of organizations still utilize dated tools which cause a disconnect with a progressive workforce as they have to deal with traditional tools at work. The future of work, workforce, and workplace issues will dominate the concerns of the HR and business leaders in the near future. They would require systems that support cross-functional collaboration, can track and measure flexible work and continuous employee engagement. A unique digital platform delivering comprehensive, singular experience that is easy to use, making the interaction with the organization meaningful is what will lead to an engaged and transparent workplace – the future workplace.
